Glasses for Phone Use — Do They Protect Your Eyes from the Screen?

ტელეფონთან სამუშაო სათვალე — BARNER Osterbro

We look at our phones for 4–5 hours a day on average — from much closer than a computer, often at night and in a dark room. So do you need special glasses for your phone, or is that just marketing? An honest breakdown.

Why a phone is harder on the eyes than a computer

  • Distance. We hold phones 25–35 cm away — the eye's focusing muscles work harder than at a monitor 60–70 cm away.
  • Small text. Tiny type on a small screen makes us squint without noticing.
  • Night scrolling. A bright screen in a dark room is maximum contrast — the most tiring scenario, and blue light at night also delays sleep (blue light and sleep).
  • We blink less — so eyes get dry.

Where glasses genuinely help

The same blue-light lenses that work at a computer work with a phone too (what blue-light glasses really do) — the benefit is greatest during evening scrolling. And if you are over 40 and find yourself holding the phone further away to read small text, that is age-related farsightedness — reading dioptres solve it (how to choose your dioptre).

Habits that cost nothing

Turn on dark mode / Night Shift in the evening, match brightness to the room, keep about 30 cm of distance, avoid scrolling in complete darkness, and use the 20-20-20 rule — every 20 minutes look into the distance for 20 seconds.

Children and teenagers

Kids' screen time keeps growing. The main advice remains limits and outdoor play, while an evening blue-light filter can support the sleep rhythm. If you have any concern about a child's vision, see an ophthalmologist.
