Women's Sunglasses — How to Choose Them for Your Face Shape

When choosing sunglasses, one simple principle works best: the frame should "work" against your face shape. Angular frames flatter a rounded face; rounded frames flatter an angular one. Knowing this one rule is already half the job. The rest is in the details.

Work out your face shape

Look in the mirror and study three lines: the width of your forehead, the width of your cheekbones, and your jawline.

Oval — cheekbones slightly wider than the forehead and jaw, with a soft contour. The most "universal" shape.

Round — width and height nearly equal, soft contours, no defined angles.

Square — a broad forehead and a defined, angular jawline.

Heart-shaped — a wide forehead, narrow chin.

What suits each shape

Face shape Best frames Why
Oval Almost anything — oversized, cat-eye, round The proportions are already balanced
Round Square, rectangular, angular Angles "cut" the face and visually slim it
Square Round, oval, aviator Soft lines soften the strength of the jaw
Heart-shaped Bottom-heavy, aviator, rimless Creates balance with a narrow chin

One rule on size, too: the frame shouldn't extend beyond the width of your face — while a frame that's too small visually "gets lost" on a larger face.

The shapes of the moment for 2026

This season the trend sits at two poles: on one side, compact, narrow cat-eye and oval frames; on the other — bold oversized styles in striking colors. In colors, black now shares the podium with transparent ("crystal"), rose, and wine tones.

The BARNER collection covers both directions — Andy and Dalston for rounded, soft silhouettes; Brad and Max for more defined lines. In colors: Black Noir for classic style, Rose and Cherry Lacquer for those who embrace color, Crystal for a light, modern look.

Practical details people often forget

Protection comes first. A beautiful frame without UV protection is just an accessory. Every BARNER pair of sunglasses has 100% UVA/UVB protection, and the polarized lens also cuts glare — from water, road, and glass surfaces.

Weight. A heavy pair that presses on your nose won't last you until evening. A TR-90 frame weighs just ~15 grams.

Trying them on is essential. Liking a pair in a photo is one thing; how it sits on your face is another. So either try them on in store, or when ordering online, know that you can exchange them in person.
